Washington County, Walnut Street Center

"No one anticipated how quickly this project could be completed. A project of this scope would typically take 18 months, but the Robert Evans Company has been able to complete it in 11 months."

How do you coordinate with three separate county departments and still deliver a new facility under budget and earlier than expected? It takes great communication and innovative thinking. Successful public/private cooperation has created a cost-effective, long-term, flexible facility for 230 of Washington County’s employees.

Overview

Washington County facilities at three sites were aging, and the lack of proximity contributed to inefficiencies. The county elected to consolidate onto a new 18-acre site, hiring the Robert Evans Company to design and build its new campus. The complex set of requirements included specialized fleet repair facilities, data management equipment, high-tech communications and emergency back-up power generation.

"With the Robert Evans Company we were able to get the most from our limited funds."

Operations Manager

Fast Track Planning

"Fast track" planning was used throughout the construction process. For instance, while architectural design was still in progress, the Robert Evans Company began site work so it could be completed prior to the onset of winter weather. The result: a project that would typically take 18 months was completed in 11 months.

"It was a great experience. I'm truly delighted... We got everything, and then some."

Engineering for Growth

The $15 million project, which includes seven concrete tilt-panel and pre-engineered steel buildings, allowed the Robert Evans Company to suggest ways to prepare for future expansion: utilities were sized for future growth, and a second floor was added to the warehouse area, saving 50 percent of the cost to add it at a later date.

"As a project manager for project totaling over $250 million, I feel the services and quality provided by the Robert Evans Company were much higher than other companies I've worked with."
