Carl Diebold Lumber Company

The third generation, Carl Diebold Lumber Company enjoys a proud reputation as a full service custom wood remanufacturing plant, in Oregon since 1940. Their clients have very specific needs---moulders, resaws, and dry kilns, which take moisture out of wood to be used for fine furniture. Carl Diebold asks Robert Evans Company to project manage a complicated expansion involving overseeing the company manufacturing the dry kiln, another company assembling the kiln and another pouring concrete.

The $4.2 million project expansion on the companies existing 6 acre site in Troutdale, Oregon showcases 3 dry kilns, each one 20 by 60 foot buildings.

Beaverton Foods

 

In order to expand, Beaverton Foods, Inc., a long-established gourmet condiment and sauce manufacturer, knew it needed to move out of the heart of Beaverton, a busy Portland suburb. The timeline turns urgent when the city votes in favor of a future road, that would slice right through Beaverton Foods property.

The entire process (design modifications and construction) takes only 14 months, even with special corrosion-resistant materials needed because of the high-acid products in the plant. The 82 employees at the family-owned business now have a spacious 70,000-square-foot plant, 10,000-square-foot office and plenty of room to expand.

Curl's Service Corporation

Steve Curl initially asked the Robert Evans Company to build a large, dock-high warehouse for Curl’s Service Corporation. Soon after that, it became time to expand again. Ten months after contacting Robert Evans, Curl's had a new 72,000 square foot warehouse designed, built and ready for move-in.

While the project ran smoothly, it required 27,500 yards of fill dirt and over 600 truckloads of concrete, all carefully scheduled and sequenced to avoid impacting completion deadlines. And who could have predicted that an earthquake would hit the day a crane was placing the multi-ton concrete tilt-up panels? Throughout it all, the Robert Evans Company was up to the task.

DiMarini Sports

DeMarini Sports, a leading manufacturer of softball and baseball bats, approaches Robert Evans Company with an enviable problem---they’re growing so fast that they barely had time to think about expanding into a new facility. REC quickly finds available sites and helps DeMarini evauluate the potential locations, including one in the new Westmark Center Industrial Park in Washington County.

REC assembles an All-Star team to seamlessly move the project from concept to completion and minimize disruption to existing manufacturing schedules. In less than a year from preliminary concept meetings, REC delivers a $2.5 million, 48,000 sq ft concrete tilt-panel manufacturing and office facility.

DeMarini Sports’ modern two-story Corporate Headquarters in a spacious new industrial park, allows them to concentrate on the development of new product lines, with expansion as needed.

Lattice Semiconductor

When Lattice Semiconductor considered remodeling two outdated office buildings to convert them into high tech manufacturing and office spaces, management had one key requirement: business must go on.

The Robert Evans Company designed and managed the remodel which included structural improvements, connecting the two buildings, adding a clean room electrical/lighting/HVAC services, nonconductive flooring, and process piping to meet the client's evolving needs.

The multi-year project finished on time and on budget, provided the quality workspace and allowed Lattice to keep production going without missing a beat.

Pinnacle Exhibits

Pinnacle Exhibits needed more room. As the provider of quality tradeshow exhibits for Fortune 500 companies, Pinnacle was growing at a fast clip and had huge fabrication and storage needs. While investigating larger buildings to lease, the company was introduced to the Robert Evans Company, which explained how being a building owner was a smart financial decision.

"Once we met Bob Evans, he became our link to everyone else in the industry," says President Chris Olberding. "He helped us develop our plan for the bank, guided us through the permit and variance process, and managed the project with such skill that I had total confidence. I was able to focus on our day-to-day business demands."

The project began with a challenge. The late fall Oregon rains made some of the site unsuitable for construction. Robert Evans Company chose to use a passive approach and waited until early summer to improve the wettest end of the property. That decision saved Pinnacle almost $30,000.

The 40,000-square-foot office/warehouse facility is now home to 36 employees and exhibits for more than 22 companies. In fact, business has been so good, Pinnacle is soon breaking ground on an additional 26,000 square feet of space on the same site. "We're more than pleased with the quality of our offices," says Olberding. "It was a really good experience all around. We're ready to do it again."

Tinitron Project

Tinitron is a leading manufacturer of building and manufacturing-grade transformers, ranging in size from a quarter to a massive refrigerator. There’s a huge demand for these work horses, such as during the BP oil spill in the Gulf where Tinitron transformers powered the underwater equipment monitoring the spill. Through a valued broker relationship, Robert Evans Company is asked to help Tinitron, not only expand into a new facility, but to first locate the land. Bob and Anita find the perfect fit---3.2 acres in Hillsboro’s Westmark Development and conveniently located just down the street from Tinitron’s old manufacturing facility. Tinitron’s new concrete tilt building is 28,000 square feet and employes 40 people. Because the facility is finished on-time and on-budget, the Tinitron’s are able to stage a dual wedding for their twin son and daughter and their fiancés---and a wedding party of 900---all inside the new building!

Washington County Walnut Street Center

How do you coordinate with three separate county departments and still deliver a new facility, under budget and earlier than expected? Washington County turns to Robert Evans Company for its innovative thinking and great communication skills. The resulting, successful public/private cooperation creates a cost-effective, long-term, flexible facility for 230 of Washington County’s employees.

First Technology Credit Union

First Technology Credit Union needed a state-of-the-art building to complement its cutting-edge banking services. Robert Evans Company brought them online — on time and under budget.

The credit union, which serves customers from the nation's leading high-technology companies, envisioned a distinctive building with state-of-the-art services. Robert Evans Company helped them locate a highly visible site within the new westside light rail zone. After guiding the credit union through the permitting process, REC managed the $1.5 million project from architectural design and engineering, through construction, to completion.

First Technology now offers its 10,000 customers some of the industry's most sophisticated banking technology from one of the Silicon Forest's most stunning new spaces.

Lithtex Printing

Ten years ago, Les Davis had the dream of building a modern printing facility that would enable Lithtex Printing to become one of the best full-service, commercial printing companies in Oregon. In 2001, with design and construction help from the Robert Evans Company, the dream came true.

There were challenges. Les David wanted a quality building that was economical to build. In the design process, it also became apparent that Lithtex would take this opportunity to modernize and streamline its process flow. And there had to be room for two new large presses and equipment for prepress, design, bindery, a document center, and 56 employees.

The 30,000-square-foot, $1.83 million Hillsboro building was completed in a speedy six months, and Lithtex had only one week of downtime to move in and become operational.

Frontier Veterinary Hospital

When Frontier Veterinary Hospital turned 56 years old in 2003, owners Scott and Joan Loepp celebrated by opening the doors to their new veterinary clinic. The original hospital building (in use since 1947!) was overcrowded and aging. Their vision was of a modern facility with plenty of room for their canine and feline guests.

"We wanted to provide our clients and their pets with the most up-to-date services and boarding facilities — and we're thrilled with the new hospital," says Joan.

The new 7,000-square-foot facility sits on a compact piece of land in a busy commercial neighborhood, so utilities installation was a challenge and meticulous construction scheduling a priority. The Robert Evans Company had the expertise to keep the project running smoothly.

"We met weekly with Bob Evans and our project manager, and never felt the meetings were rushed," said Scott. "They always took the time to address our questions. In fact, we were surprised at the level of concern shown for our project. At one point, they offered to help us redesign two or three areas to save space and money."

The new hospital boasts three modern exam rooms, a special procedures room, a surgery suite, ICU, pharmacy, lab, radiology area, grooming suite, administration offices, a children’s play area, adoption center and boarding rooms that even have Web cameras! The clinic is just what customers wanted — a large, comfortable and comforting place to bring their beloved pets.

Brisbee and Stockton

Renowned Portland architect Will Martin designed the original office building of Hillsboro law firm Brisbee & Stockton. High on the firm’s needs for expansion was retaining the artistic integrity of that original design. Brisbee & Stockton chose the Robert Evans Company, aware of its reputation for quality work.

The project posed another challenge. The construction site offered minimal s pace for equipment and staging, forcing careful scheduling. “It was a remarkable accomplishment that our office continued to operate on a daily basis while the addition was in progress,” said Larry Brisbee. “There is no doubt that the suggestions made by the Robert Evans Company, leading to savings in time and money, were significant.”

The 3,600 square foot addition is a poured-in-place concrete building that blends beautifully with the original structure’s historical roots.

Cascade Occupational

Robert Evans Company is an expert at keeping their clients’ businesses humming along---even as construction goes on. Cascade Occupational offers employment screening tests and lab work. Its Hillsboro clinic needed a remodel to accommodate growth, but work couldn’t disrupt one minute of the practice. At noon on Friday Robert Evans Company picked up the keys to the building, and by Monday morning Cascade Occupational staff walked into a new facility replete with fresh carpet, paint, case work and more.

DevelopMentor

The biggest challenge in the DevelopMentor tenant improvement project was sticking to budget because of all the special features and requirements. The international training institute for software developers is known for its innovative training courses and wanted a high tech look: concave walls, a floating ceiling, cantilevered shelving and lots of bold colors and special details work.

The 6,000 square foot improvement was a solid hit, finishing on budget and in just 5 months including the wait for special-order fixtures and materials. “The Robert Evans Company lays everything out for you, so there are no unanswered questions,” said Lorrie Trussell of DevelopMentor.

Hawthorn Farm Learning Years Daycare

A long waiting list is testimony to the success of the Hawthorn Farm Learning Years Day School. To accommodate more children, the center needed to add an 8,400 square foot building next to the present site.

The Robert Evans Company is hired to build the new facility which requires implementing regulations by the Americans with Disabilities Act and special child care center needs. The state-of-the-art new facility has an improved design, computer room, kitchen, story area, multi-purpose room and classrooms.

Cornell Building Medical Offices

The beautiful 12,000 square foot Cornell Building, built by Robert Evans Company, is a thriving medical center housing Therapeutic Associates, Gentech Dental, Orenco Medical Clinic and Cornell Dental. Although patients appreciate the tastefully designed maple cabinetry accents, art niches, vaulted ceiling and faux painting, beneath the custom interiors are exacting electrical and mechanical systems required for medical facilities.

Robert Evans Company’s was well-equipped with the unique experience needed to manage the $1.7 million project---from land acquisition, special zoning requirements, and building of the shell, to all the new tenant improvements and facility management.

Tanasbourne Medical Dental

Tenants of Washington County’s Tanasbourne Medical Dental building are used to seeing our crews. The Robert Evans Company has remodeled and is in the process of renovating several of the tenants’ clinic space.

Dr. David Spangler wanted a new look and wanted it completed by the time he got back from a medical conference and vacation---an 11 day window. When Dr. Spangler returned, everything ---new paint, carpet, ceiling tiles, light fixtures---looked fresh and inviting. He saw patients the day he returned.

Robert Evans Company also recently completed a beautiful remodel for Dr. Winn Winn, and is in the permit process for West Side Pediatrics where crews will move walls, change the layout, install new carpet and lights and repaint---all while keeping the clinic fully operational. To meet the early December flu season deadline, Robert Evans Company crews will erect a full height, double sheet rock wall to muffle construction noises so Dr. Winn can hear the soft sound of a baby’s heart beat.

Jackson Bottom Wetlands Preserve

The Jackson Bottom Wetlands Preserve — a 710-acre wildlife sanctuary and wetlands preserve — was founded in 1989 as a resource site for school children, scouts, educators, researchers and community members. The tranquil retreat is home to thousands of songbirds, ducks, geese, deer, otter and beavers.

It became clear in 1999 that a formal education center was needed for the enriching field trips and events provided to the northwest community. With the help of generous donors and dedicated volunteers, the education center opened in 2003, featuring interactive exhibit, unique artifacts, and a special classroom for hands-on learning.

"I'm sure our education center was a challenge for the Robert Evans Company," said Sandy Crinklaw, director of development. "We had private donations of building products to schedule in, and large pledges that had specific fulfillment dates. Because of his real interest in the Preserve, Bob Evans worked with us and our donor schedule to make the project happen in one year. On top of that, the firm saved us about $100,000 through engineering suggestions and changes in window and door systems."

"They were constantly vigilant about the most effective way to do all aspects of the project," added Gary Myers, board chairman. "We ended up with a very high-quality building. We definitely made the best choice for the Preserve."

The 12,000-square-foot cedar building blends well with its natural surroundings, with a 3,000-square-foot wrap-around deck that connects the center to the trails leading into the Preserve.

Hawthorne Victorian Mansion

A stately 1920’s mansion on Portland’s eclectic and lively Hawthorne Boulevard needed extensive restoration to bring her back to her original charm. The owner needed a complicated remodel that would provide for a law firm, apartment and an Indian restaurant.

Robert Evans Company’s master craftspeople researched everything from the kind of paint used in the Victorian age (seven different colors on the exterior), to the wooden staircase spindles and original flooring, to restoring the lead glass windows and duplicating many exquisitely sculpted architectural features. We even preserved the original rose bushes! The result is the return of the Grand old lady on Hawthorne.

Grand and Salmon

The historic Rose Building on Portland’s busy Grand Avenue had just sold to a new owner who wanted to honor the original look on the exterior while modernizing the interior for her business Transfer On Line.

Robert Evans Company’s design/build expertise was precisely what she needed. We worked closely with the owner to pick out every finish and color, and test them out prior to final application. The result is an ultra modern interior with high ceilings, exposed beams and high ceilings. On the exterior we maintained the colors used during the building’s era (see the medallion on our home page, middle window). The original metal awnings were remarkably preserved and support crisp new awnings.

Momokawa Sake Brewery

Japan America Beverage Company faced the challenge of blending the ancient Japanese art of sake brewing with a highly efficient, high-tech operation in Forest Grove.

The joint venture, between Momokawa Brewing of Japan and Oregon-based Frost International Group, chose Robert Evans Company to make it happen. Attention to detail and innovative thinking helped ensure the $8 million brewery would operate efficiently. Robert Evans Company guided the project from initial engineering and plant process design through construction, testing and start-up. Close partnerships with Japanese, Italian and U.S. manufacturers resulted in specialty equipment, climate-controlled rooms and process-control systems designed to meet the brewery’s unique needs.

Today Momokawa makes some of the world’s best sake with the same attention to detail that made its brewery one of the most efficient in the nation.
